The Saga: A Parody Musical

A Note From the Director

Last summer, I convinced my mom to go see the Northern Town Parodies production of WandaVision: The Parody Musical. When we left the show, I told her “That is what I need to do. That was amazing.” I felt so incredibly inspired that I started writing a parody of the Hunger Games that night. As I was trying to find my DVD of Catching Fire for a reference, I accidentally grabbed my copy of Breaking Dawn Part 2 DVD. It must have been fate because that DVD changed my mind about which show I was parodying. Twilight was the answer. I had already become a little obsessed with how terrible and confusing the lore is in Twilight, so I knew I could do the messed up story justice. In my parody, I knew the plot would stay the same, of course, but Bella could not be useless. She is one of the least active protagonists I’ve ever seen, and that is what makes her boring. I needed her to make choices, and it is those choices that led us to the show we’re putting on now. The character of Bee Swan is strong, confident, and proud. She says everything someone reading and watching Twilight wishes Bella would have said. In addition, I wanted to shine a light on all of the weird, sexist, and terrible things Stephanie Meyer put into her books so that we all can acknowledge and understand how wrong they were. This show is Twilight through my eyes. It is my heart and soul, but it’s still a hilarious and fun time.

I would like to thank Stephen Svoboda, David Cotter, and Carol Dusdieker for giving me this opportunity. You have all inspired me to create and be the best writer, actor, and singer that I can be. I would also like to thank my family for always supporting me and cheering me on. I worked incredibly hard on this production, and I hope you all enjoy it!
